Updated RESPONSE TO URBANSITTER’S REPLY BELOW:
It is NOT true that we are allowed to hire babysitters to come to our home. Only ESSENTIAL workers (ie medical staff, grocery or delivery people etc) are allowed to have sitters come to their home. That is a tiny percentage of California’s population. This mandate is still in place today which is May 7th.
You’re only continuing to charge our membership fees now because your business is down. But that is unethical since we can’t hire sitters now and haven’t been able to since early March.
Very callous response by the way. You show no concern for someone’s health or financial situation during this global pandemic. Only point to your “policies”. I don’t hire sitters to come over even if I could unless I absolutely have to. I don’t want to endanger their lives or ours. We are all sheltering in place and trying to keep our communities healthy and safe. By refusing to refund the fees you charged me unethically and not addressing my concerns at all, showing zero interest in keeping me as a customer, you’ve lost permanently as a customer. We were members for several years. We all want to survive this pandemic but by ripping off your customers, you’re going about it the wrong way. Short term gain, long term loss.

Why are there suddenly many 5 star reviews posted in the middle of a pandemic and shelter in place?? Are you having all of your friends write fake reviews? I asked for a refund for the last 3 months for monthly fees charged to me when I wasn’t able to hire any sitters legally through our state’s lockdown. Not only did they not refund, they tried to sell me an annual membership at a discount and throw “2 free months” which are an absolute joke because I can’t hire anyone right now anyway. Terrible customer service. We also subscribe to a car wash monthly service and proactively, without my having to ask them, they stopped charging my account in March and won’t resume my subscription until our state opens up again. Now that’s GREAT service. To continue charging membership fees and refuse to refund charges during a pandemic is unethical and truly a ripoff. Terrible way to treat customers. Cancel now before they keep charging you. And go with another competitor when this is over - don’t need to keep paying them for nothing.
Required me to sign up for a resulting monthly charge to use a gift card I had received. I already had the sitter so in order to cash out the gift card, I had to sign up ($20) my sitter had to sign up ($20) then pass a back ground check ($10) then they never sent me a receipt for the monthly charges. They changed the name of the charge so it looked different different months, I.e. they intentionally changed the name to get around you noticing the recurring charge. I discovered The charge and politely asked for a refund as I was only using the service to cash in a gift card. They profited $50 from me just to use my gift card. They essentially said, sucks to be you we are keeping all this money that we never provided you with a receipt for or notified you was being taken out of your account under different names each month.
Very deceptive business practices. Do not use this service. Sitter City is WAY better.

I feel like this app this company used to be so much better 5-6 years ago.
I paid for a membership I have had NO access to at all. I have emailed support so many times looking to get my account reactivated. At this point I feel for the 3 months that I have not had access I should get a refund because I completed my background check and this is not on my part.
This is TERRIBLE.
If you guys need more workers answering support questions. BY ALL MEANS HIRE MORE PEOPLE. I would be happy to have a job helping as a mother on UrbanSitter and former UrbanSitter sitter for almost 5 years or more now.

When they started requiring background checks I decided to stop using them...now today I find out they used my card on the account to charge me for a membership "renewal" at 30% more than the year prior. My account profile has been "hidden" ever since 2019 because I never completed the new background check.
I did not do a background check so that my account would lapse...yet I was charged for an account that wasn't even active? Waiting to hear what support has to say, as there is no phone number you can call. Sounds like yet another company using predatory automatic renewal procedures. Prove me wrong Urban Sitter!
I was extremely excited to have found a site where I could connect with local sitters. With 70 sitters in my area and a quick search to ensure there would be someone available when I needed them, I signed up for Urbansitter. Upon signing up, I was dismayed to see that my search for a morning sitter during the weekday, yielded only 2 results. Neither potential sitter responded to my inquiry, despite giving them at least 3 days to respond. Not even an, "I'm sorry, but I'm unavailable." It was radio silence. Seeing as there were only 2 options and 0 interest, I reached out to Urbansitter to inquire about a refund and was told they were unable to issue refunds. If only this site would charge you for membership once a sit has actually been confirmed...I certainly learned the hard way and will not be recommending, nor using this site again in the future.
As others note, they're automatically renewing full-rate memberships during COVID. I contacted support promptly twice that I didn't want it--they refused to issue a refund. [Update--the 3rd time a supervisor stepped in and helped! Thank you, Brittney, 4 stars] because they have good sitters, though in 5 years I've gotten as many from other sites.
Urbansitter always respond right away I use the parent and the sitter portal and they’re good on both ends it’s good to be a parent and sitter using urbansitter
I've hired a few babysitters on Urbansitter and had great experiences. When I recently reached out to customer service with a question, they were very responsive and helped me solve my issue.
I’ve found a lot of great babysitters using this site and always receive prompt helpful responses from Brittany.
I definitely would recommend using this site because I’ve found great babysitters who were good fun smart college or grad students in my area.
Absolute scam for sitters. They have you put in all your information before even being able to see that a job is no longer available, and then they require you to pay money to apply to current jobs *after* they've already collected your info. Terrible site and dishonest.
